Bechamel in Marseille

2 years…

I keep repeating the

words and it seems unbelievable.

Our two year anniversary was really on October 30, but because of work (well for him) we pushed it to the weekend.

SO, of course I went all out and planned a day trip to the Chateau d’if and Ile de Frioul.

Look how damn happy I am. It’s the salty ocean breeze, the sun strong on my face and…

That’s all the sentimentality you will be getting from me…

Practical info:

1) Where to catch the boat

You can catch the boat on the Vieux Port on the left hand side. It’ll be a large sign saying “Navette Chateau d’if et Ile de Frioul” The boat is about 15 euros for both islands and 10 euros for just one island. But I recommend you skip Ile d’If, unless you’re a diehard Alexandre Dumas fan. ALSO they charge you 5 euros to go on the stupid island.

Chateau d’If was…… interesting? It was a former prison now transformed into a kitschy touristy place.

The we hopped back on the boat for the Ile de Frioul.

This place was beautiful and my only regret was that we did not have enough time to thoroughly explore it.

We went hiking around and finally found a spot to watch the sunset.

We then cam back to Marseille and had dinner at a little place called Le Lauracée.

The dining area was cute, with sofas on one side of the wall.

And the ADORABLE salt and pepper “shakers” I was tempted to steal this.

The food was decent though, nothing to be excited about…

I had this pumpkin soup topped with some dried Corsican sausages and some lovely gnocchi.

Alex had this sardine entree with some AMAZING cheese on the bottom called “le bruce”.

Then, of course, I had lamb.

The lamb was good, but a little overcooked. How can a french chef overcook lamb???

Alex had a fish plate I forgot to take a picture of, but he was happy enough with it. But then again, he can eat anything.

So happy anniversary to us again.

In exactly one hour I will be heading out to a Bloc Party concert in Marseille.

I’m going to wet myself, I’m so excited.

Anniversary post is coming up…. (yep it was 2 years on October 30th!)

Sadly and strangely enough, I have never gone to a “Dia de los muertos” in Los Angeles, which would be the prime location (outside of Mexico) to attend such festivities.

So I was beyond elated when I discovered that Marseille would be having it own’s festival put on by the Association des Cultures Franco-Mexicaines . I was just dying to have Mexican food again..

But to me, this was the most glorious sight…

I had beef mole with real tortillas (I’m still too mad to talk about my failed Cuban pork dinner where the “corn” tortillas I bought from (raped by) Galleries Lafayette were so disgusting, I couldn’t eat them).

The bulk of the entertainment was from this gentleman

He performed a variety of skits and jokes

(Excuse the pedophiliac overtones, but I will NEVER tire of photographing French children. Hands down, CUTEST in the world)

So our Halloween was low-key this time … but I did manage to dress up..

And I so did the “Screw all the sluts for Halloween”

I wish WISH I had a picture of my whole outfit. A chaste long black sleeve, with a knee length black skirt, tights, and my killer ankle boots that Alex hates.

It amuses me to see my attempt a praying position after so much booze…

Alex went as “man-without-face”

It was more effective in the dark club.
