Metro Rant

Published by Jooree under RANTS

Please someone explain to me why people who wear headphones on the metro sitting next to you INSIST on blasting crappy crappy alt-rock at 8:30 in the morning? Yea you asshole guy-who-is-prematurely-balding-at-age-18 with enough pimples to make any kid cry….. i don’t need to listen to your shit that early in the morning, especially after a morning which I spent hungover as fuck……
As if that wasn’t bad enough, as soon as the pimply kid leaves, I get bombarded by two men who apparently thought it would be a cool idea to take a bath in cologne. I fought the urge to choke myself to death at the stench. I know, showering is nouvelle, but please, lay off the cologne! Nobody’s loins are quivering when they sit next to you…. and if they are, it’s more due to people trying to hold their breath around you…
Sigh. My metro rides are so exciting…

Yay

I thought I would have nothing to blog about until the news stopped showing Britney’s coochie then I read about this delightful piece on AP..

South Korea builds world’s largest garbage-fuelled power plant

South Korea has opened the world’s largest garbage-fuelled power plant and expects to reduce its imports of heavy oil by 500,000 barrels a year as a result.

The 50-megawatt plant, designed to provide power to more than 180,000 households, began operating on Tuesday. It sits on a mammoth garbage dump in the city of Incheon west of Seoul, the ministry said in a statement.

For fuel, it uses only the methane gas naturally generated from the decomposing garbage on the site.

“It reduces greenhouse gas emissions by burning away methane and avoids buring more fossil fuel for electricity,” Park Han-Eop, an official of the ministry’s waste treatment division, told AFP.

The plant will save the country the import of 500,000 barrels of heavy oil and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1.37 million tonnes per year, he said.

A private firm, Eco Energy, invested 77 billion won (83 million dollars) in building the power plant in return for operating it for 11 years before handing the commercial rights over to the government, he said.

South Korea has 12 other landfill gas power plants either being built or operating across the country. They are mostly small-sized plants producing one to six megawatts.

South Korea currently relies heavily on nuclear power plants which supply 40 percent of demand. It imports all its oil needs.

Leave it to the Koreans to do something good for this world..makes me feel all warm and happy inside…

Oh wait it doesn’t because it’s so cold here!!!! Where’s the goddamn snow? Damn Montreal, let me down again…..grrr

This is it…

Published by Jooree under Canadia

Friday was a freezing day, as we battled an ice storm. It hailed/snowed/rained with these furious winds. It was brutal to go to work and I was worried, wondering if this was all that a Montreal winter was suppose to be…

Then Saturday mornng, we woke to this.

OK, a bit of snow, increasing and decreasing throughout the day. We had stayed inside all day long, not daring to go out, althought I felt cooped up and we took a walk around 11:30PM. It was stil icy everywhere, but the air felt nice.

THEN, this morning…

Now, I need to get snow tires, snow boots, thermal underwear, snow gloves…..

Goddamnit, now all my cute clothes have to be put away…. :-( I’m going to have pale pale legs.

Thanksgiving update

Published by Jooree under Canadia, Food

I hope everyone’s thanksgiving was as fun as mine. I took a day off work and slaved in the kitchen all day, while Alex ran out the door when he saw me taking out a 8 lbs turkey.

Kidding mon chou

He cleaned the apartment and helped rearrange the furniture. He also made emergency trips to the grocery store for me.

Thanksgiving

The turkey, pre-cooking…I brined it overnight in a herb/salt solution, which is SO brilliant, btw. It makes the turkey so unbelievably moist and very forgiving. I didnt have a meat thermomenter and even then it came out great. And the gravy was excellent, made with the dripping.

Thanksgiving
Stuffing

This stuffing recipe is my Auntie’s. Toasted french baguette cubes, celery, raisins, onions, and a bit of chicken stock to make it moist.

Turkey carcass

So I kicked myself in the ass for forgetting to take pictures of the table all neatly set with our guests (Alex invited his coworkers) but I did take a picture of the carcass, proof that it was delicious.

Then we went to the Salon National des Animaux which was at Parc Olympique.

I was thrilled of course. A whole day surrounded by animals?? And animal food companies handing out FREE samples? It was too good to be true.

Moi

Alex was equally as happy.
Alex

Not really.

But nevertheless it was an experience.
