weekend highlights

WEEKEND highlights……

SO, one thing that is AMAZING about France is the amount of partying people do here. It’s 5 am and you want to go out? Thats not a problem, though I have yet to last until 5 am. (my american tendencies has me passed out by 4 AM, but I’m working on it)

OK, so Thursday I checked out the Scat club. I knew the waitress there, Karin, one of the most UNPRETENTIOUS french women I have met. She is amazingly nice and her friend, Anna-Marie, is quite possibly the most gorgeous woman I have seen in Aix so far. The club was empty as I got there early, but I had a 9 euro drink (9 euro!!!!) and talked to some older, slightly sleazy man about Silicon valley.

Then around 1, I headed out to Mistral club. Now to some people in Aix, the Mistral is the best place to party at. Well, if you’re Corsican that true, because that club is filled with 45% Corsicans who ALL know each other. It’s like some twisted inbreeding thing going on, because apparently Corsicans only sleep with each other too. I meet up with some friends (yes there is a guy, yes I’m semi-seeing him, and yes he’s Corsican). The best thing about clubs in France is that EVERYONE dances. Yes, even men dance in a circle by themselves, though it is quite funny. Oh and oldies are popular here. Oldies and 50 cent, esp Grease. Anything by Grease sets the french people off and its a pretty amazing sight to see. So we danced until 4:30, had a cheesburger at 4:30, then I finally went to bed at 6:30. (I’ll skip all the gory details).

SO, Friday night. It’s off to IPN, where I had met the doorman, Lena, previously, who is also amazingly nice and helped me set up my internet. I get in, and at first I’m a little hesitant, because I’m by myself. But after an hour of nursing my 4th drink of Martini (which is cooked wine and not the cocktail) I went to the dance, where I was accosted by a very nice french boy (20 seems so young to me). I danced for about 3 hours, and my feet still won’t forgive me. I went home around 4 am, but not before being asked by a very stupid gentlemen on the street if I could blow him for 300 euros. Considering I was buttoned up in a jacket and jeans, looking very sweaty and seriously not an ounce of sexiness, I politely and shockingly declined his generous offer, then went home.

Saturday night. I went to watch a very dull, but beautifully shot movie called L’isola with Ilona. They screened it at the Universite library which had this beautifully designed exterior

Books #2

Then after the film, I headed out to O’shannons, where I chatted with the bartender, Ariel.

Ariel

He’s English, yet he speaks french and has the longest dreads I have ever seen. I sat with his cousin, who was visting and then had about 5 drinks, courtesy of Ariel.
Moi et Ariel
O’Shannons, while it’s ok, is often filled with very loud, drunk stupid air-headed american blondes, who have apprently never drank before. So I try not to go often, but they play football on the television, and the bartenders are nice.

At 1:30, I headed out to Scat club, which was 3 doors down from O’Shannons, where I had more champagne with Karin and the owner, and listened to this awesome live band. Scat club is an underground, very french club, and the music is always good.

My favorite picture of the night…

Random shot of the club (mind you its really dark in there, so I don’t have a clue what I’m taking a picture of)

And my drunken walk home at 4 am….

Anyways, Aix-en-provence, France!

My beautiful mother….(can you not see the “when is my daughter going to give birth” look in her eyes?)
IMG_0743.JPG I hope she’s doing ok, if anybody can go see her, tell her I said hello. she keeps on missing my calls

MY LAST view of Los Angeles and America in general. IMG_0746.JPG

Ok I was immensely sad on the lonely trip there…I’ll admit ..

I landed the next day after a HARROWING 8 hour flight in a Lufthansa (DO NOT FLY FROM CALIFORNIA TO GERMANY ON LUFTHANSA). I was crammed tighter than sardines in a can (pardon my lack of creativity to come up with something better). The food was atrocious and I kept on getting up, interrupting the poor gentlemen to my right.

But anyways, germany. The city seemed pretty souless and the women all pretty much scared me. They all looked like men. I wanted to take a picture, but I think flash photography might have disturbed them. SO you have to settle with this

Yea so I fell asleep in the airport then boarded for short flight to Marseilles.

My first look of France and Marseilles

South of France is gorgeous. Fucking gorgeous. However, my califronia-reduced emissions-lungs can’t get used to all the diesel yet. I got placed into this apartment near mon universite and here it is bitches….

Sigh….life it pretty good so far. My classes are a bore….(yes Jooree finds academia easy. How many fucking ways can you learn to aska question? The french has 4 ways (aigoo). American music is so prevalent here. I’m sick to death of that dumbass pussycat dolls “dont cha” song. All the bars here play 80’s music with the occasional 50 cent sprinkled in. BUT people party till 6 in the morning every weekend. It’s amazing, but no one gets drunk here. Well not mad drunk, throw-up-in-the-streets (like Korea) drunk.

I have a roommate….Ilona Growchoska….(i butchered that)
IMG_0771.JPG

Yes she’s polish, yes she’s blond, yes she speaks english, yes she’s gorgeous, and no we do not have pillowfights in our underwear (sorry)

thank you to everyone who posted birthday messages or emailed me. It was lovely and made a day a little less lonelier, although I did spend my birthday in a pub with about 20 drunken older business american men attempting to hit on me and my roomate…..

Ahhh I love France

au revoir…

jooree

PS: Congrats to Pastor Mike and Jean on the birth of Megan Sarah Kim. Btw, Megan, be prepared to be spoiled by moi when I come back

PSS: Someone tell Pastor Mike I have finished Dark Star Safari and I loved it. especially the part when Mr. Theroux is arguing with the Christian missionary, a moot point I believe…
