Ok,

I promised spaz a horrible cheesy/girly movie with her. So, the Cinderella Story was picked because of our undying love for Chad Michael Murray. Anyways, was looking at the poster, and next to Chad’s head, is HIlary’s nipple.

Or a hell of a shadow. You decide.  By the way, you can see I ALWAYS spend my time wisely….

So, I thought I would comment on two lovely movies I watched tonight, with my lovely movie partner tim.

Pieces of April

It stars Katie Holmes and an amazing Patricia Clarkson, as a dysfunctional family struggling to get through one thanksgiving meal. Katie Holmes is the outcast daughter, who invites her family to the ghettos of New York, while Patricia Clarkson is her straightlaced, caustic mother dealing with a terminal illness. Her family is just as odd, with a father trying to keep everything together, Movie Image

a photographer aficianado brother, a high-strung younger sister, and an addled grandmother. Combine it with her black boyfriend, and a couple of screwy neighbors, the plot seems off the wall at first. However, the humanity manages to shine through, and the touching stories manages to transcend its sad topic and allow the audience to laugh at times. I highly recommend the movie, if you have the patience to sit there watch this story unfold, which is does very very well. The low-budget of the film was a bit bothersom at first, but later on contributed to the overall realistic feel of the movie. Also, the director made wonderful use of the photography angle, as the photos also told a provocative story all on its own.

SO………..

I re-watched “Secretary”. If you haven’t watched it, its about a girl, played by the amazing
Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is lost in the world. She works for a lawyer, played by the amazing James Spader, and realizes that she loves his control, while he loves to control her. It becomes a SDM relationship, and while the actions seem a bit out of the norm, the love and painful feelings are very real as these two lost characters fall in love, and find each other.

Basically in the last scene, he’s softly bathing her, and this amazing song, ‘Chariots Rise’ by Lizzie West comes on. Then she speaks saying, “Each cut, each scar, each burn, a different mood or time. I told him what the first one was, told him where the second one came from. I remembered them all. And for the first time in my life I felt beautiful”.

So whats the point of all of this? Well, Valentine’s day came and went. It seems like every other day, except I buy myself chocolate around this time, and eat the whole box like those depressed, thirtysomething women. Somehow, on my grocery run, I decided not to be like those depressed, thirtysomething women. It seems so…..repetitive and time-consuming to sit there and wait for the perfect man to drop by. I’ve realized that relationships are draining, but what worst is trying to start something. The apprehension, the butterflies, the everything is what makes this all not worth the wait. Everyone in LA sits in their own content bubble, as they yak aimlessly on their cell phones about who hooked up with whom, and who broke up with whom. We’re all alone, yet we continue to stall in our bubble, resisting any sort of contact. We all strain to “fill the hole”, but yet we don’t do anything about it. So we continue to sit and drown our sorrows in pints of cherry garcia, and wait for love.

Love…..it holds us together, yet keeps us all apart….

So what am I going to do? I’m going to sit here in my bubble, and strain through the film, and maybe find somebody else in their bubble, waiting just like me. Who knows, maybe we’ll all break out of bubble someday.

OK……………….I’m choking on my words hardcore now……………..

BUt OMG PETER JACKSON WAS AMAZING!

I just watched Return of the King. And it was abso-fucking-lutely fantastic! I just had one teensy little problem with it………………………..

WHERE WAS MY HUSBAND??

Legolas

I think he was like in……….6 scenes. Not enough face time right there…..sighs……but he did have this amazing scene where he took out an entire army……….so that was impressive……..but still…….

OK, on with the movie review.

Honestly, I have never been so impressed with a movie in my life. Never have I gotten so emotional with a movie! I cried, I laughed, I got scared, I cried some more. (ok I sobbed like a little baby most of the time). The movie sucks you in and you sit there spellbound, wondering if the world was going to get saved. The perfomances were top-notched as usual, even though Liv Tyler could have given a better performance……..oh well.

The direction was amazing…………omg the sweeping visuals, the heart-wrenching story, the basic quest for survival and all the emotions that come into it……..the way it was all filmed made it even better….

The fake endings were perfect. It made you wish in the end that this magical tale would never end and that another ring would be made so that another quest can be undertaken……….(or not).

And there was NOTHING gay about Frodo and Sam’s relationship!  For ALL you doubters out there, if you went to hell and back with a guy, you would be just as close, damn homophobiacs……….

The chemistry between all the characters were amazing and the orcs this time looked even worse! And poor Smeagol, what a sad end he reached……….

Overall, the movie was fantastic and I will be VERY disappointed if it fails to win best picture and best director comr oscar time.

I have now decided to read the series. I’ll even give Hobbit another try………..
