Paju
"Paju" tells the story of Eun-mo who returns to her hometown Paju, a complex area itself with several US and North Korean army bases. She quickly learns that her sister Eun-soo , passed away in what she thought was a hit and run. Upon meeting her brother-in-law Joong-shik (Lee), Eun-mo discovers a very different truth and also finds out that he has transferred a large sum of Eun-soo’s death benefits he received to her.
오늘 소개해드릴 영화 “파주”는 고향으로 돌아온 은모의 이야기입니다. 휴전선 근처에 위치해 곳곳에 미군부대가 들어선 그녀의 고향 파주는 그 자체만으로도 복잡 미묘한 도시입니다. 은모는 언니의 남편이었던 중식과 만나면서 사고사인 줄로만 알았던 언니 은수의 죽음이 사실과 다르다는 것 그리고 중식이 자신의 앞으로 보험금을 남겨놓았다는 것을 알게됩니다.
Now Joong-shik heads a group of squatters battling against the demolition of an apartment complex. He declares his love for Eun-mo and they start an uneasy affair, made more complicated by the fact that she thinks he might have been responsible for her sister’s death.
야학교사였던 중식은 이제 재개발 지역의 철거민들을 돕는 철거민대책위 위원장이 되어 있었습니다. 중식이 품어왔던 자신의 감정을 은모에게 전하게 되고 두사람의 쉽지 않은 사랑이 시작됩니다. 하지만 은모가 언니의 죽음에 중식이 개입되어 있을 거라는 의심을 하게 되면서 두사람의 관계는 한층 더 복잡해지고 맙니다.
"More than a love affair between a man and a woman, the relationship between Jung-sik and Eun-mo is more of compassion that those in agony are likely to develop for each other", the director, Park Chan-ok said.
박찬옥 감독은 “단지 남녀간의 사랑 이야기가 아닌 중식과 은모의 관계는 동정심이라는 면이 더 강해 서로에게 고통과 번민을 느낀다”라고 설명했습니다.
Park also said Paju is the perfect backdrop for this mysterious and gripping story. 또한 파주는 이 신비하면서도 매력적인 이야기를 담아낼 아주 최적의 장소였다며,
"When I think of Paju, I always view it as a mysterious place because it was always foggy whenever I visited there and it also sits right next to the border area dividing the two Koreas", Park said in a meeting with the audience after the film's first screening at PIFF. "I wanted to portray that mysterious feeling in the film".
“나는 막연히 ‘배경이 안개가 많이 피는 도시였으면 좋겠다. 꿈처럼 여러가지가 섞여 버리는 곳이면 좋겠어’라고 생각했다. 실제 파주에 갔을 때 안개가 자욱해서 한 치 앞이 안 보이고, 한 발짝도 나갈 수 없었던 그런 경험이 있어서 파주를 배경으로 했다.”며 “고요한 분위기, 북한과 마주하고 있는 국경도시인 점도 좋았다.”라고 첫 상연을 가졌던 올해 부산국제영화제에서 밝혔습니다.
The film stars Seo Woo, Lee Seon-gyoon, and Sim I-yeong. The film will be released October 29th. 배우 서우, 이선균, 심이영씨가 출연했구요, 개봉일은 10월 29일입니다.
