Bandhobi

In "Bandhobi which translates to "female friend" in Bengali” portrays 17-year-old Min-seo lives with the mother and her mother’s useless boyfriend, which Min-seo never misses a chance to point this fact out to him. Her mother has no money to send her to “cram schools”, so Min-seo starts to work illegal part-time jobs to try to pay for them herself.

영화 제목 “반두비” 는 방글라데시어로 여자 친구를 뜻합니다. 주인공 민서는 당찬 17살 소녀로 애인 챙기기 바쁜 엄마와 실속 없는 그녀의 남자 친구와 함께 살고 있습니다. 여름 방학을 맞아 민서는 원어민 영어학원 등록비를 마련하기 위해 불법 아르바이트도 마다하지 않으며 돈을 모으고 있지만 영 신통치 않습니다.

One day on the bus, she spies a lost wallet and just before she can enjoy it, she is caught by the wallet’s owner Karim, a migrant worker from Bangladesh. He is struggling in Korea to support his family back home. Min-seo strikes a deal with Karim that instead of him reporting her to the police she would help track down his former boss that owes him a year's pay, just before he leaves in a month. As they awkwardly try to find themselves in the Korean society, they also learn from each other.

그러던 어느날 버스에서 남의 지갑에 손을 대려다 지갑 주인인 방글라데시 이주노동자 카림에게 덜미를 잡힙니다. 카림은 한국에서 번 돈으로 고향의 가족들을 부양하고 있었는데 일년 치 월급을 받지 못해 힘들어 하고 있었습니다. 민서가 경찰서에 가는 대신 소원을 들어주겠다고 하자 카림은 한달 뒤 자신이 한국을 떠나기 전에 사장님을 찾아가 떼 먹힌 월급을 찾아달라고 합니다. 처음엔 어색했지만, 소원을 풀어나가는 과정에서 점차 서로에 대해 배워나가게 됩니다.

The movie stars Bae Jin-hee and migrant worker turned filmmaker Mahbub Alam Pollob. It was directed by Sin Dong-il.

영화 “반두비”에는 배우 백진희씨 그리고 실제 이주노동자에서 미디어 활동가로 변신한 마붑 알엄 펄럽씨가 출연했으며, 신동일 감독이 매가폰을 잡았습니다.
